Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I find myself having to write a lot of animal obituaries on here. It's really sad but it's part of life. It makes it bittersweet to look at a puppy and know one day you'll have to say good-bye. Especially knowing it's true of people too. With all the hurt and sorrow and grief though I must say that I am a believer in better to know and lose love than to never love at all. Buddy was the best friend of my husband since he was 18. There has not been a day that I did not know Stevan without Buddy. He lived a good life and was a good dog. He was 16 years old and died very peacefully snuggled in his straw bed. To every beginning there is an end. WE love you Buddy and you will be missed forever.

A lovely commentary for your beloved friend. A healthy way to grieve with kids and husbands alike. Bye Buddy, you served your family well!

I am so very sorry for your loss of Buddy. We have all had very special pets in our life, they are as big a part of the family as the humans are! Your words are so eloquent Terri! We will see all of the special "people" in our lives again someday. I love reading your blog and seeing pictures of your boys, makes me feel like I'm not halfway across the country from you! Love you lots, take care! Your cousin Cindy
